Punter Michael Dickson showed why he earned AP Midseason All-America honors during Texas’ overtime loss to No. 10 Oklahoma State.

The Australian booted 11 punts for a 51-yard average in the 13–10 defeat. Those punts included three kicks of over 60 yards, with five pinned inside the Cowboys’ 20-yard line.

While Longhorn fans have become accustomed to Dickson’s phenomenal kicking, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy gushed over the junior’s performance after the game.

"Their punter is — did he win the Ray Guy Award last year?" Gundy said. "He should have won it. He changed the field on us. I don’t know what the yardage is, I just know that every time we go a little bit of field position, he changed the field … he was fantastic for them."

Dickson took home the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year award in 2016. He came up short in the vote for Ray Guy Award, which recognizes the nation’s top punter.

With a struggling offense, the Longhorns are counting on Dickson to make a difference every week. If he continues to deliver, it’s likely Gundy’s award recommendation will come to fruition.
